Gut-Based Personalized Nutrition Shows Promise in Combating Diabetes and Hypertension

A New Weapon Against Diabetes and Hypertension

personalized nutrition based on gut microbiome analysis.

The study, conducted using Leucine Rich Bio's flagship technology BugSpeaks, revealed that nourishing the gut can significantly prevent chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension. BugSpeaks is a gut microbiome profiling test that provides personalized nutritional recommendations based on an individual's unique gut microbiota profile.

The human microbiome, consisting of trillions of microorganisms residing in our bodies, plays a crucial role in maintaining health, digestion, immunity, and regulating the central nervous system. The study participants who received personalized diets showed remarkable improvements across various health parameters after 90 days. Their average HbA1c levels (indicating average blood glucose levels over the past two to three months) decreased from 8.30 to 6.67, systolic blood pressure reduced by 14%, and C-reactive protein (an inflammation marker) decreased by 20%.

"This 'proof of concept' clinical trial demonstrates that BugSpeaks-based nutritional modulation of the gut microbiota can positively impact health and supplement medication for diseases like type-2 diabetes," stated Debojyoti Dhar, Co-Founder & Director (Business Development and Innovation) of Leucine Rich Bio and the lead author of the study.

The study also observed a two-fold increase in beneficial microorganisms and a similar decrease in non-beneficial species in the participants' gut microbiome. Maintaining a balanced gut microbiota is crucial, as an imbalance (dysbiosis) can lead to various health issues, including digestive problems, mental health issues, and menstrual problems.

Leucine Rich Bio, South Asia's first microbiome company, aims to provide data-driven solutions in healthcare. They started in 2014 with a focus on oncology but later shifted their focus to the microbiome domain, launching South Asia's first gut microbiome test in 2018. The BugSpeaks test analyzes gut health using stool samples and provides personalized recommendations for probiotics, prebiotics, and food based on an individual's specific gut bacteria.

This study offers a promising new approach to managing chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension. By focusing on personalized nutrition based on gut microbiome analysis, Leucine Rich Bio is paving the way for a more holistic and preventive approach to healthcare.
