Congress in Turmoil as Delhi Chief Resigns Over AAP Alliance

Arvinder Singh Lovely Resigns as Delhi Congress Chief, Citing Alliance with AAP

Arvinder Singh Lovely, the former chief of the Delhi Congress unit, has resigned from his post, citing the party's alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as one of the reasons. He clarified that he is not joining any other political party.

Lovely's resignation came after Congress ex-MLA Asif Mohammad Khan claimed that the BJP would field Lovely from the East Delhi constituency, replacing Harsh Malhotra. However, Lovely denied these claims and stated that he has only resigned as the Delhi Congress chief.

In his resignation letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely expressed his disappointment with the alliance, stating that the Delhi Congress unit was against it. He said that the party's decision to ally with the AAP, a party formed on the basis of "false, fabricated and mala fide corruption charges" against the Congress, was against the ideals that Congress workers had been fighting for.

Lovely also highlighted the fact that several AAP cabinet ministers are currently facing corruption charges. He said that despite this, the Congress decided to ally with the AAP in Delhi. While he respected the party's decision, he felt that the alliance compromised the ideals of the Congress party.

Lovely's resignation is a setback for the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. It reflects the internal divisions within the party regarding the alliance with the AAP.
