Delhi Congress Chief Resigns, Citing AAP Alliance and Internal Issues

Arvinder Singh Lovely Resigns as Delhi Congress Chief, Citing Disagreements with AAP Alliance and Internal Issues

Arvinder Singh Lovely, the Delhi Congress chief, has resigned from his post, citing several reasons including his opposition to the party's alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and internal issues within the Delhi Congress.

In his resignation letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely stated that the Delhi Congress unit was against the alliance with the AAP, but the party high command went ahead with it. He also criticized the AAP, stating that the party was formed on the basis of "false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges" against the Congress and that half of its cabinet ministers are currently in jail on corruption charges.

Lovely further expressed his disapproval of the Congress's North East Delhi candidate, Kanhaiya Kumar, for praising Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is behind bars in a money laundering case. He argued that such statements contradict the party line and the beliefs of local party workers.

Additionally, Lovely criticized the AICC General Secretary (Delhi in-charge) for unilaterally vetoing all unanimous decisions taken by senior Delhi Congress leaders. He also stated that he was not allowed to make any senior appointments in the DPCC and that the AICC General Secretary has not allowed the DPCC to appoint all block presidents in the city.

Lovely's resignation comes as a setback to the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. He was appointed as the Delhi Congress chief in August last year and was seen as a key figure in the party's campaign in the national capital.
