Prime Minister Modi to Address Mega Rally in Jammu and Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a massive rally in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday. This visit marks his third trip to the union territory since February, as he campaigns for Union Minister and BJP candidate Jitendra Singh. Singh is seeking re-election for the third consecutive time in the city's Lok Sabha seat.

The rally is expected to draw a crowd of over two lakh people, showcasing the immense support for the BJP in the region. This enthusiasm is further fueled by the recent abrogation of Article 370, which has become a central theme in the Jammu and Kashmir election campaign, particularly in the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat.

The event will see a multi-layered security system in place, with advisories issued for attendees and security personnel deployed along the Jammu-Udhampur highway and key junctions. This heightened security is a response to recent trends of anti-national elements using drones as improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The Udhampur Lok Sabha seat is set to witness a triangular contest, with the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) nominating three-time MLA G M Saroori and the Congress fielding Choudhary Lal Singh. In the 2019 elections, Jitendra Singh defeated Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh, grandson of the erstwhile Maharaja Hari Singh. In 2014, Singh secured a landslide victory against former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
