PM Modi reignites reservation row, accuses Congress of Muslim appeasement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in Gujarat on Wednesday, May 1, 2023. He reiterated his stand on "religion-based reservation" and said that Congress, its "shehzada," and INDIA bloc parties should declare that they will not resort to religion-based reservations.

PM Modi said that reservations for SC, ST, and OBCs have been given by the Constitution, and no one can take them away. He also challenged the Congress to declare that they would not provide reservations based on religion.

PM Modi also emphasised that if he wanted to withdraw the reservation, he had the power in his second term in Parliament to do so. He said that the Congress wants to loot the reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Sections and give it to Muslims.

He alleged that the Congress insulted him in the 2014 and 2019 elections. He said that the Congress used to scare people that if the Ram Mandir is constructed, then there would be chaos in the country. He also said that the Congress said that if Article 370 is abrogated, then the country will break and there would be rivers of blood.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that the opposition would take away SC/ST reservation and give it to Muslims. He said that the Prime Minister lacks knowledge and is opposing the beliefs of Bihar's former CM Karpoori Thakur, who was recently awarded Bharat Ratna.
