Parents of Covishield Vaccine Recipient who Died to File Case Against Serum Institute of India

The parents of Karunya, who tragically passed away after getting vaccinated with Covishield, are preparing to file a case against the Serum Institute of India. They criticized AstraZeneca for its delayed admission regarding the risks associated with the vaccine and expressed frustration that actions were not taken earlier to prevent such casualties.

Venugopalan Govindan, the father of the deceased woman, highlighted the need for halting vaccine production and distribution when 15 European nations raised concerns about blood clots linked to the vaccine in March 2021. He criticized both AstraZeneca and SII for not taking steps to address these issues promptly, which could have potentially averted devastating outcomes.

In their pursuit of justice, the parents have submitted a writ petition seeking redressal and the establishment of an independent medical board to investigate the circumstances surrounding their daughter's death. Despite these efforts, Serum Institute of India declined to provide any comments when approached by the Economic Times, adding to the family's frustrations and pushing them to seek further legal action.
