Congress Claims Modi Govt Owes Jharkhand Lakhs of Crores, Alleges Step-Motherly Treatment

The Congress has made serious allegations against the Centre, claiming that Jharkhand is owed lakhs of crores of rupees in coal royalties and pending central scheme benefits. This accusation includes a critique of what they describe as the Modi government's neglect towards Jharkhand, labeling the treatment as "step-motherly."

Specifically, the General Secretary of the Congress questioned the Prime Minister's failure to release the 1.36 lakh crores owed to Jharkhand, as well as the denial of homes promised to 800,000 residents of the state. Additionally, concerns were raised about the Mandal Dam project in Palamu, which was initiated with much fanfare before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but has reportedly remained stagnant ever since.

Ramesh, the Congress spokesperson, highlighted the significant outstanding amounts owed to Jharkhand by subsidiaries of Coal India Limited, including sums for land compensation, common cause dues, and washed coal royalty. The party is adamant about pressing the government on the unfulfilled promises and alleged neglect of crucial projects like the Mandal Dam, aimed at addressing agrarian distress in the region.
