Bombay Shaving Company Advertisement Under Fire for Allegedly Exploiting Class 10 Topper

Bombay Shaving Company Advertisement Under Scrutiny by ASCI

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has initiated an investigation into a controversial advertisement by Bombae, the sister brand of Bombay Shaving Company. The advertisement, featuring the name and image of Uttar Pradesh Board's Class 10 topper, Prachi Nigam, has sparked outrage for allegedly mocking her appearance and facial hair.

ASCI CEO and Secretary General, Manisha Kapoor, confirmed that the council is examining the advertisement following concerns raised on social media. The ASCI jury will further evaluate the ad if the company chooses to contest the investigation.

Kapoor highlighted potential violations of the ASCI code, specifically the exploitation of children's vulnerability. The advertisement is believed to have targeted and exploited a young student, potentially causing harm and reinforcing negative stereotypes about women's facial hair.

Critics have condemned the insensitivity and poor taste displayed by Bombay Shaving Company. The advertisement, which linked Prachi Nigam's academic achievements to the brand's products, has been described as opportunistic and disrespectful. Many have urged regulatory bodies like ASCI to intervene and hold the brand accountable for its actions.

Prachi Nigam initially gained attention for scoring 98.5 percent in the Class 10 board exams. However, the controversial advertisement has overshadowed her academic achievement, sparking a debate about ethical marketing practices and the exploitation of children in advertising.
