Parents of Woman Who Died After Covishield Vaccination to File Case Against Serum Institute of India

The parents of a woman who died after receiving the Covishield vaccine are planning to file a case against the Serum Institute of India (SII), the Indian company that manufactures the Covid-19 inoculation for UK's AstraZeneca.

Venugopalan Govindan, father of Karunya, who died post-vaccination, said AstraZeneca's admission of potential risks was "too late," following numerous casualties. He believes the companies should have stopped production and distribution of the vaccine when 15 European countries either suspended or age-limited them due to deaths from blood clots in March 2021.

The parents have filed a writ petition seeking redressal and the appointment of an independent medical board to investigate their daughter's death. SII declined to comment on the matter.

Govindan further alleged that companies and the government had promoted Covid-19 vaccines as "safe and efficacious" without adequate data. He believes the regulatory bodies that approved the vaccine and didn't intervene when data emerged about the dangers are all culpable in the death of his daughter and countless others.

If sufficient remedies aren't obtained, Govindan plans to file fresh cases against any and all individuals or entities responsible for the deaths caused by the vaccine. He believes justice must be served and such tragedies prevented in the future.
