Mitsubishi Electric Unveils New Earth Observation Satellite for Disaster Prevention

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. unveiled its new Earth observation satellite, Daichi-4, to the media on March 11th. The satellite will use advanced radar technology to monitor the Earth's surface for changes that could indicate potential disasters.

Daichi-4 is expected to play a crucial role in disaster prevention and response efforts. Its ability to observe a wider area and collect more precise data than its predecessor, Daichi-2, will allow for more frequent monitoring and better understanding of disaster situations.

The satellite will be used to track volcanic activity, ground subsidence, and the impact of natural disasters on buildings and infrastructure. This information will be vital for authorities in making informed decisions about evacuation, rescue, and recovery operations.

Mitsubishi Electric developed and manufactured Daichi-4 over eight years, in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. The satellite is scheduled to be launched aboard the H-3 rocket in fiscal year 2024.
