Takashi Endo Responds to Questions About Ban on Tablet Computers in Lower House

Takashi Endo, the chairman of the Diet affairs committee for the Nippon Ishin (Japan Innovation Party), addressed questions from reporters at the Diet building regarding the decision made on April 4. The Lower House, which had initially aimed to accelerate the digitalization of procedures, ultimately decided to forego the lifting of the ban on tablet computers in plenary sessions due to concerns raised during the meeting.

Lawmakers from different parliamentary groups expressed worries about the potential impact on the "authority" of proceedings if tablet PCs were to be introduced as a daily tool. There was a consensus among former speakers and vice speakers of the Lower House present during the April 4 meeting that it would be challenging to lift the ban, with the issue of authority being a significant factor in their deliberations. One person present even noted that it would be "difficult" to overturn the ban on tablet devices.
