Manipal Hospitals Acquires Medica Synergie, Becoming India's Largest Hospital Chain

Manipal Hospitals has announced the acquisition of an 87% stake in Kolkata-based hospital chain Medica Synergie. This deal, valued at approximately Rs 1,400 crore, will significantly boost Manipal's presence in Eastern India and make it the largest hospital chain in the country, surpassing Apollo Hospitals Enterprise.

With the addition of Medica's 1,000 beds, Manipal's total bed count will exceed 10,500, surpassing Apollo's 10,103 beds. The combined network will also include AMRI Hospitals, acquired by Manipal in September 2023, resulting in a pan-India footprint of 37 hospitals across 19 cities.

This acquisition aligns with Manipal's strategy of expanding its footprint in Eastern India, a region with a significant demand for high-quality healthcare services. The company plans to leverage Medica's clinical expertise and infrastructure to meet this growing demand.

Dilip Jose, Managing Director and CEO of Manipal Hospitals, commented on the acquisition, stating that it strengthens the company's presence in Eastern India and enables them to cater to the healthcare needs of the underserved region. He further added that they plan to integrate Medica Synergie into their portfolio and rebrand it, aiming to deliver enhanced healthcare services across Eastern India.
