CBI Arrests FSSAI Official and Three Others in Bribery Case

CBI Arrests Four in Bribery Case Involving Food Safety Authority Official

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four individuals in connection with a bribery case involving the Assistant Director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in Mumbai. The accused allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh in exchange for clearing outstanding bills from a private company.

The arrested individuals include the Assistant Director of the FSSAI, a Director of a private company, a Senior Manager of the same company, and another representative. The CBI alleges that the Assistant Director, in connivance with intermediaries, engaged in corrupt practices by demanding and accepting bribes from food businesses and other parties in exchange for dishonest discharge of his public duties.

In this specific case, the Assistant Director allegedly agreed to accept a bribe from the Senior Manager of the private company in exchange for clearing their pending bills. The CBI laid a trap and caught the Assistant Director red-handed while accepting the bribe. All three individuals involved in the exchange were arrested.

Later, the CBI also arrested the Director of the private company. Searches were conducted at the offices and residences of the accused, leading to the recovery of approximately Rs 37.3 lakh in cash, 45 grams of gold, documents related to various properties, and other incriminating evidence.

The arrested individuals were produced before the court and remanded to police custody until May 8, 2024. Further investigations are ongoing.
