ED Raids Aide of Jharkhand Minister, Seizes Over Rs 20 Crore; BJP Alleges Corruption

Congress Leader Alamgir Alam's Aide's Residence Raided by ED, Over Rs 20 Crore Seized

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at the residence of a household help linked to Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam. The raid resulted in the seizure of over Rs 20 crore in cash.

Opposition BJP Reacts

Reacting to the raid, BJP leader Numal Momin stated that the incident highlights the deep-rooted corruption within the Congress party. He claimed that the nature of corruption practiced by the Congress government in Jharkhand has not changed.

Alamgir Alam Responds

Meanwhile, Alamgir Alam urged patience and restraint in jumping to conclusions. He clarified that Sanjiv Lal is a government employee who has served as a personal secretary to two former ministers. Alam emphasized that it is not appropriate to comment on the raid before the ED investigation is completed.

Background

The raid is part of an ongoing investigation related to the case involving Virendra K Ram, the chief engineer at the Jharkhand Rural Development Department. Ram was arrested in February 2023 in connection with alleged irregularities in the implementation of government schemes. In 2019, a large sum of cash was recovered from one of his subordinates, leading the ED to take over the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Further Investigation

The ED is continuing its investigation into the matter. It remains to be seen what further details will emerge and what actions will be taken.
