Indian IT Giants Train Over 775,000 Employees in Generative AI Skills

The top Indian IT firms, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, and Wipro, have invested significantly in training their workforce in generative AI (GenAI) skills. By the end of 2023-24, these companies collectively trained over 775,000 employees in GenAI capabilities, exceeding the earlier projection of 650,000 by Nasscom. TCS, as India's largest IT services company, took the lead by training around 300,000 employees in GenAI skills to integrate AI at the core of its operations.

Infosys, the second-placed company in terms of GenAI training, equipped 250,000 of its employees with these skills. Wipro followed closely, training over 225,000 employees in both AI fundamentals and the responsible use of AI. Wipro's training program included 195,000 employees in basic GenAI fundamentals, along with different levels of training for thousands of staff ranging from foundational to advanced levels. HCLTech, based in Noida, expressed plans to train 50,000 of its employees in GenAI skills during FY25, with specific focus on developing GenAI developers and technical experts familiar with architecture and programming.

LTIMindtree, the fifth-largest IT services player, has undertaken the training of over 20,000 employees in GenAI capabilities. This emphasis on upskilling in GenAI is in response to the increasing demands in this space, with clients showing a growing interest despite it not yet significantly reflecting in revenue. Companies like TCS and Accenture have already sealed multi-million-dollar deals in the GenAI domain, pointing to the increasing importance of these skills in the IT industry's future growth.
