State Aims to Harness Sun's Power to Meet Growing Energy Needs

Rajasthan's Ambitious Solar Energy Push

The Rajasthan government has set its sights on significantly increasing its reliance on solar energy. The state aims to boost its solar power consumption from the current 12-14% to over 40% by 2030. This ambitious target is driven by the need to bridge the growing power gap and reduce dependence on expensive electricity purchases from other states.

With rapid urbanization and industrial growth, Rajasthan's electricity demand is projected to rise by 8-10% annually. To meet this rising demand, the government plans to promote solar production centers and rooftop solar plants. These initiatives will not only enhance energy security but also contribute to reducing reliance on coal-based power generation.

The government's flagship PM Suryaghar Yojana aims to install subsidized rooftop solar systems on 500,000 houses in the first phase. The scheme will be expanded to include other consumers in the future, with plans to increase subsidies and offer additional benefits to encourage adoption.

Rajasthan's abundant solar potential is a key driver of this ambitious plan. The state receives intense solar radiation with a high number of sunny days, making it an ideal location for solar energy production. Additionally, the availability of vast unused land provides ample space for solar installations.

With a solar energy generation potential of 142 GW, Rajasthan has the potential to become a leading solar energy hub in India. The government's proactive approach and the state's favorable conditions position Rajasthan to achieve its ambitious solar energy goals and contribute significantly to India's clean energy future.
