A Comprehensive Look at the Indian Economy's Current Landscape and Future Trajectory

A Deeper Look into the Current Economic Situation

The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) is currently conducting over half a dozen data collection exercises to gain a clearer picture of the current economic situation. This information will be used to update various indices, including the consumer price index (CPI), wholesale price index (WPI), and the index of industrial production (IIP).

Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS): This survey collects data on unemployment in the country.

This survey provides information on how households are spending their money.

This survey provides data on the country's manufacturing enterprises and employment in the sector.

This survey provides data on non-incorporated non-farm sector enterprises, which form a large chunk of the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.

This survey provides a framework for measuring time dispositions by the population on different activities.

This survey provides data on the urban population and their living conditions.

This survey provides data on the agricultural sector.

This survey collects data on prices of goods and services.

The results of these surveys will be used to update the basket of CPI or retail inflation, as well as to provide a better understanding of the informal sector and the participation of men and women in paid and unpaid activities.

It is important to note that the results of some of these surveys, such as the ASUSE, have not been released for several years. This has raised concerns about the transparency and accountability of the NSSO. However, the government has stated that the data is being analyzed and will be released soon.

Overall, the NSSO's data collection exercises are an important source of information about the Indian economy. The results of these surveys will be used to inform policy decisions and to track the progress of the economy.
