More than One Lakh Personnel Deployed in Delhi for Upcoming Lok Sabha Elections

Delhi is gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with the deployment of more than one lakh personnel across the national capital. The Chief Electoral Officer, P Krishnamurthy, shared details at a press conference, indicating that preparations are in full swing for the over 1.5 crore voters expected to exercise their franchise on May 25. He mentioned that there has been an increase of 8.85 lakh electors as compared to the previous elections, with a notable improvement in the gender ratio.

Krishnamurthy emphasized the election details, mentioning the presence of 1.52 crore voters in Delhi, including 82.13 lakh male voters, 69.88 lakh female voters, and 1228 transgender voters. He highlighted the increase in transgender voters from 669 in 2019 to 1228 in 2024. Additionally, the number of first-time voters stands at 2.52 lakh. The deployment of over one lakh personnel for election duty, including webcasting in polling stations and the involvement of CAPF, Home Guards, and Delhi Police Personnel for security, was also addressed.

With the looming heatwave expected during the voting period, officials have been instructed to make arrangements for coolers, mist fans, and cold drinking water at polling stations to ensure voter comfort. Stakeholders such as MCD, NDMC, Delhi Jal Board, and the health department have been collaborating to set up necessary facilities, including the positioning of Delhi Jal Board tankers at MCD zonal offices. The elections for the seven seats of Delhi are scheduled for May 25, with the results of all Lok Sabha seats set to be declared on June 4, as per the election timeline.
