Tsunoda Takes Helm as President, Nakamura Transitions to Chairman Role

Asahi Shimbun Announces Leadership Changes

The Asahi Shimbun Company has announced upcoming changes to its leadership team. Katsu Tsunoda, currently serving as senior managing director, will be promoted to president and chief executive officer. Shiro Nakamura, the current president, will transition to the role of chairman.

These changes will be officially confirmed at an extraordinary board meeting following approval at the general shareholders meeting scheduled for June 25th.

Tsunoda, 59, has been instrumental in driving content generation reforms as the company's chief content and digital policy officer. In his new role as president, he will oversee the execution of company operations, focusing on transforming the business structure and strengthening its growth potential.

Nakamura, 61, has served as president since April 2021. As chairman, he will manage the overall operations of the Asahi Shimbun group. Additionally, he will continue to address challenges facing the media industry in his role as president of the Japan Newspaper Publishers and Editors Association, a position he has held since June 2022.
