## Tesla Eyes Showrooms in India's Major Cities Ahead of Market Entry
Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, is actively exploring potential showroom locations in New Delhi and Mumbai, signaling its imminent entry into the Indian market later this year. This move comes amidst a global decline in vehicle deliveries for the company, prompting efforts to expand into new markets.
Tesla's initial plans include establishing showrooms spanning 3,000 to 5,000 square feet, alongside service hubs in both cities. The company has already commenced production of right-hand drive vehicles at its German facility specifically for export to India.
This expansion aligns with the Indian government's recent reduction in electric vehicle import taxes, making it more attractive for manufacturers like Tesla to invest and establish local production. Additionally, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is scheduled to visit India this weekend, where he is expected to announce investment plans and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tesla's foray into the Indian market comes at a time when the demand for electric vehicles is witnessing rapid growth. While EVs currently constitute only 2% of India's total car sales, the government aims to increase this figure to 30% by 2030. This presents a significant opportunity for Tesla to establish a strong foothold in the world's third-largest automobile market.
