## Ghazipur Landfill Fire Rages On, Residents Express Frustration

A massive fire that broke out at the Ghazipur landfill site in Delhi on Sunday evening continued to rage into the night. Firefighters battled to control the blaze, which was caused by gas produced in the landfill.

Delhi Fire Service officer Naresh Kumar said that 10 fire brigades were working to extinguish the fire. "Four are on the upper side of the mountain, and the bowsers are stationed at the bottom," he said. "JCBs are being quite helpful as there is trouble in dousing the fire due to heat."

Kumar expressed hope that the fire would be controlled by morning. However, residents living near the landfill expressed frustration with the ongoing situation. They complained of the foul smell and pollution that has plagued the area for years.

"The first and the biggest issue around the landfill site is the foul smell," said one resident. "Pollution has made life difficult in the area for the last 10 years. People have complained against it many times but the government does not take adequate action."

Another resident lamented the lack of focus on cleanliness. "Everyone is just focused on elections, no one is paying attention to these daily issues that we face," they said. "There is no focus on cleanliness, you can see it here."

The fire at the Ghazipur landfill highlights the ongoing challenges of waste management in Delhi. Residents continue to suffer the consequences of pollution and poor living conditions, while authorities struggle to find effective solutions.
