Amit Shah's Key Statements in the Midst of Lok Sabha Elections 2024

India's Claim on PoK and Citizenship Amendment Act

In a recent interview with ANI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated India's claim over Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). He stated that PoK is a part of India and the country has a right over it. This statement comes amidst ongoing protests in PoK since May 10th.

Shah also addressed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and announced that 300 people were granted citizenship under the act in Delhi. He defended the CAA, stating that it is the law of the country.

Shah's Criticism of Opposition Parties

Shah criticized opposition parties for suggesting a policy of appeasement towards Pakistan. He specifically mentioned a comment made by former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, who suggested respecting Pakistan due to their possession of an atomic bomb. Shah asserted that India, with its large population and atomic power, will not be intimidated and will not give up its claim on PoK.

He further criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for contesting two seats in the Lok Sabha elections without disclosing it beforehand. Shah questioned Gandhi's motives and stated that electoral stature is earned through public support, not by birth.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Shah's comments come as the Lok Sabha elections 2024 are underway. Four out of seven phases of the elections have concluded, with Phase 5 scheduled for May 20th. This phase will see 695 candidates from 49 constituencies across eight states and Union Territories go to polls.
