Putin is like 16th century Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga, says Abe

23.04.2022

The former prime minister Shinzo Abe stated on the evening of April 21 that Russian President Vladimir Putin is like 16th century Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga.

Putin is an extreme pragmatist, and fundamentally he believes in power, Abe told participants at a symposium sponsored by the evening tabloid newspaper Yukan Fuji. I think he's like a Sengoku Warring States period general. If you told Oda Nobunaga to respect human rights, it wouldn't work at all. Oda Nobunaga was a warlord who brought much of Japan under his control through years of military campaigning before being pushed to kill himself in Kyoto. He is known for his sometimes brutal methods.

Abe told the audience on the Russian invasion of Ukraine that information was not analyzed accurately over years of building his Putin's authoritarian regime. This invasion is the result of badly mistaken judgement. On April 22, he Abe said on April 22 that the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan leader Kenta Izumi met with that warlord Putin 27 times, and he would run, dash and then dash more until reaching the goal with Putin. Izumi added in a sarcastic tone, If the friendly feeling is so strong between them, then surely he Abe understands Putin's thinking, so Abe should stop him.
