05.05.2022

The Polish president, Nancy Pelosi, thanked the Polish nation for its support of Ukraine after talks with the Polish president in Warsaw on Monday.

After a meeting with President Andrzej Duda on Monday, Pelosi said in a statement: In our meeting, our members expressed America's deep gratitude to the Polish government and Polish people for opening their hearts and homes to Ukrainian refugees, and we reaffirmed our nation's pledge to continue supporting Poland's humanitarian efforts. The statement continued that our meeting focused on reaffirming our nations' commitment to further strengthening the U.S. Polish partnership and Nato alliance, both of which are vital to the triumph of our common democratic values and countering Russian President Vladimir PAP Putin's dangerous aggression.

Pelosi told reporters that the talks had touched on humanitarian and economic support for the region as well as security aid. She said that they had discussed with the US ambassador to Poland Marek Brzezinski the possibility of expanding the Nato base in Poland.

According to the head of the International Policy Bureau at the President's Office, Jakub Kumoch said that while the meeting had primarily dealt with Ukraine, relations with Poland were also discussed, which Kumoch said had been described by a US delegation as the best in history. Kumoch said that he believes that relations with the United States are the key regardless of who governs in Warsaw and Washington.

On Sunday, Pelosi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv and flew to Rzeszow in south-eastern Poland before visiting Warsaw on Monday.
