Hong Kong inflation rate falls to 1.6 pct

The year-on-year increase in April's underlying inflation rate was 1.6 percent, a decrease from the average increase of 1.7 percent in March, the department announced on Monday.

The price of basic food, particularly fresh vegetables, went up mainly due to the slower increases in the price of basic food.

The price of takeaway food went up as a result of the receding local epidemic. The prices of energy-related items continued to record visible increases.
