The cases included 162 local infections and 28 imported cases, said Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection's communicable disease branch.

No new deaths were reported on Monday and the figure is lower than the 237 infections recorded on Sunday.

We have less than 200 cases, but we wouldn't rule out further fluctuations. Chuang said the trend is trending downward and that the pandemic has remained stable.

She said the two new cases linked to McDonald's branch in Taikoo Shing involved a 76-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man who had been eating at the fast food outlet at lunchtime on May 15. A family of three who were eating there at the time tested positive for the disease earlier in the day.

Chuang said the woman later ate at restaurants in Mong Kok, Wan Chai and To Kwa Wan, and they were all included in a compulsory testing notice.

She said that five cases have been traced to the fast food outlet because of the identification of multiple cases in McDonald's branch.

Chuang also said 19 students and two staff members from 20 schools tested positive for the disease before they went to class.

Larry Lee Lap-yip, chief executive of the Integrated Clinical Services of the Hospital Authority, said 514 confirmed patients were being treated in public hospitals, the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Center, and the COVID 19 community treatment facility at AsiaWorld-Expo.
