Apple's new MacBook Pro is the fastest in the world

18.10.2021

On Monday Apple announced its new 13-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, packing the company's latest custom-built processors called the M 1 PRO and M 1 Max. Available for the next week at $1,999 for the 14-inch model and $2,499 for the 16 inch model, the MacBooks get completely new displays, more ports and a lot more horsepower than their Intel-powered predecessors.

The new Pros are designed for folks who need a lot of power from their machines. Why is my video and photo editor, designers, and people like me talking about the most powerful laptop in the world? And that came through loud and clear when Apple announced M 1 Pro, and M 1 Max chips in the new Pros are up to twice as fast as the prior Intel INTC - powered MacBook Pros.

The M 1 Max, meanwhile, has 57 billion transistors, or 3.5 times what M 1 has. It has the same CPU cores as the M 1 Pro but also includes 32 GPU cores.

According to Apple, the M 1 Pro and M 1 Max beat other 8 core PC chips with 1.7 times the performance using 70% less power than competitors.

What's more, the M 1 Pro gets 7 times the performance of integrated graphics found in PCs. Or even more impressive is Apple's claim that the M1 Pro has less power than a dedicated graphics card for 70% less graphics performance.

The M 1 Max uses 40% less power than a similar low-end discreet GPU. And Apple says its chip can pump out the same level of performance whether the laptop is plugged in or using battery power. Other graphics cards throttle performance unplugged to save battery life. In fact, Apple says the M-1 Max is 3.0 times faster than high-end discreet GPUs when using battery power.

Apple says the Macbook pro 14 inch with either an M 1 Pro or M1 Max is 3.7 times faster than an Intel Core i 7-powered MacBook pro 13 inch.

The M 1 Pro and M 1 Max models are 32 inch. The MacBook Pro is twice as fast as the Core i9-Powered MacBook Pro 16-inch. The 16-inch MacBook Pro with AMD's Radeon Pro 8 is 2.5 times faster than the 2nd generation model equipped with the M1 Pro graphics processor. The M 1 Max is 4 times faster than the competitions GT 720.

The Pros also have new near edge edge Retina XDR screens with a fold for the notebook's FaceTime camera. The 16 inch Pro now has a 16.2 - inch viewing area with stretched out display in the smallest space of 16 inches. The 14 - inch Pro has a 14.2 - inch view area.

Macbook ProMotion has also added the top 3 extra capabilities to its displays, which automatically changes the refresh rate of the screens you're viewing.

Apple claims the new MacBooks also use mini LEDs. Literally made of much smaller LEDs than traditional laptop displays, mini LED panels can better regulate color and light thanks to the fact that more of them can be packed behind the screen. That means the new MacBook Pro will be able to produce crisper hues than ever before. Apple says you'll get a million to one contrast ratio out of the screens.

The keyboard is also new and ditches the Touchbar found on prior generation models. And Macbook Pros get more ports including HDMI, 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports, and SD card slots, as well as a MagSafe charging port.

The FaceTime camera gives 2 times better low light performance, deals with 1080 p resolution and uses computational photography for sharper images. Both the 14-inch and 16-in - inch Pros make 6 speakers with two tweeters, and an increased range of motion on two of the woofers for deeper bass.

None of Apple's rumored AirPods would be just its latest attempt to make you healthier.
