Kremlin says it didn't receive any notification of US plan to send new missile systems to Ukraine

Russia continues to defend its interests, according to the Kremlin.

Russia continues to safeguard its interests, the Kremlin said in response to reports about Washington's plans to send new missile systems to Ukraine.

We didn't receive any notifications on the matter. Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman, told reporters on Monday that they are making the decisions on a regular basis as far as protecting our interests are concerned.

Peskov said after several news agencies reported that the US was purchasing a medium-to-long range surface-to-air missile system for Ukraine.

The Norwegian-developed NASAMS is one of the weapons Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested in the past, according to the Associated Press.

The US and other NATO countries are increasingly providing Kiev with heavy weapons to help it fight Russian troops. Recent deliveries include US-made M 142 HIMARS multiple rocket launchers and M 777 howitzers.

Peskov has said this month that flooding Ukraine with foreign weapons will not change the course of the conflict and will only lead to more suffering and destruction in Ukraine.

In late February, Russia attacked the neighboring state after Ukraine s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, first signed in 2014, and Moscow s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German and French protocols were designed to give the breakaway regions special status within the Ukrainian state.

The Kremlin has demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists that the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked and has denied that it was planning to take the two republics by force.
