NATO to increase troop readiness to over 300,000

27.06.2022

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday that NATO will increase the number of its forces at high readiness massively to over 300,000 despite Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine.

He told reporters ahead of a NATO summit in Madrid that they will increase the number of our high readiness forces to well over 300,000.

NATO has some 40,000 troops in its quick response force, the NATO response force.

NATO will change its language on Russia, which was still described as a strategic partner at the Madrid summit from 2010 on the alliance's last strategy.

That will not be the case in the strategic concept that we will agree in Madrid, Stoltenberg said.

I expect that allies will state that Russia poses a direct threat to our security, to our values, to international order.
