Plasma Science launches air sanitisers using Safe Dome Technology

27.06.2022

SINGAPORE: Technology that can eliminate bacteria and viruses, developed in collaboration with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research A STAR, has been launched in a series of air sanitisers.

The sanitisers, which were launched by Singapore firm Plasma Science, use Safe Dome Technology.

Safe Air Dome technology combines the triple killing action of cold plasma ions, advanced graphene electrostatic plates, and built-in ultraviolet-C, Plasma Science, an A STAR spinoff, said in a media release earlier this month.

The company said that typical air purifiers in the market are designed to remove only dust and allergens, and that they also capture and destroy volatile organic compounds, allergens, odour, aerosol and dust.

Dr Ady Suwardi, Project Lead Scientist at A STAR's Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, said that scientific studies were conducted in collaboration with Plasma Science and the Temasek Foundation to prove that the technology worked. He said that we look forward to contributing to better public health outcomes and minimising the risks of transmission with the availability of such disinfection technologies.

Plasma Science said that the Trident series of air sanitisers, named the Trident series, underwent trials at CTF Expo and at the social impact hub at Temasek Shophouse in Dhoby Ghaut. They have also been deployed to Ren Ci hospital and Teo Heng Family KTVs.

Existing air purifiers are not able to quickly purify air of aerosols so as to prevent virus transmission, it said. HEPA filters do not have anti-microbial features to actively disinfect the air. Plasma Science said the Trident uses washable electrostatic plates to capture particles from the air, eliminating the need to replace filters. The air sanitisers also have built-in features to remind users when to clean the plates.

The company said that the air sanitisers are able to automatically adjust fan speeds according to environmental conditions, which ensures optimal energy usage.
