Japan's Kyushu, Tokai and Tokai have recorded their shortest rainy season on record

The sun is hot near Tokyo Station on June 27. The Shinnosuke Ito Three regions, including the Tokyo area, marked the beginning of their shortest rainy season on record on June 27 amid a summer heat wave.

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on the day that the rainy season appears to have ended in the southern part of the Kyushu region as well as the Tokai and Kanto-Koshin regions.

The end of the rainy season came 18 to 22 days earlier than usual in these regions.

The Kanto-Koshin region recorded its earliest end to the rainy season, while the southern part of the Kyushu region and the Tokai region witnessed their second earliest.

This year, because of the cold air mass moving southward and other factors, the southern part of the Kyushu region and the Tokai region entered the rainy season eight to 12 days later than usual.

The late start and early end means that all three regions have recorded their shortest rainy season since 1951, the earliest year that comparable statistics became available.

The rainy season lasts from 13 to 21 days this year for these three regions.
