Russia says Ukraine could put an end to war by end of the day

29.06.2022

Dmitriy Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, said Ukrainian authorities could put an end to the war by the end of the day if it lays down its arms and surrenders. The lack of NATO support for war against Russia has angered Kyiv officials.

Peskov was responding to reports about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's call to end the war before winter. By the end of today, the Ukrainian side can simply order nationalist subdivisions to lay down their arms, order the Ukrainian military to lay down their arms and fulfill the conditions set by the Russian Federation. Peskov, a Russian-owned news media, said that the rest is up to the head of the Ukrainian state.

Peskov said that a special military operation is going according to plan and achieving its goals. He said Russia hasn't set a date for its completion.

Kyiv has responded to Peskov's statement, saying Ukraine did not start this war by order. Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said they could end the war in Moscow at any time, simply by returning to adequacy: stop sending missiles through cities, withdraw troops and abandon nuclear propaganda.

Kyiv leadership expressed their disappointment with NATO and the West for not doing enough, as the war rages on.

Ukraine is told 'You are not a member because we do not want you,' said President Volodymyr Zelenskiy s Deputy Chief of Staff Ihor Zhovkva, who is responsible for foreign policy. NATO is telling us that we are not giving you anything, he said.

According to Zhovkva, NATO has fallen short, and Ukraine's expectations for Madrid are low despite the West sending billions of weapons to Ukraine. He said that we want to get unanimous, vocal support for Ukraine.

The new draft security concept for NATO needs to acknowledge that its primary threat is Russia and that the best defense against that threat is Ukraine, according to Zhovkva.

Addition of Sweden and Finland to the alliance or expanding its rapid 15 day response force would improve Europe's security. Imagine what would happen if Ukraine had 15 days to deploy its forces when Russia invaded on February 24, Zhovkva said.

A defense expert said Ukraine's military has suffered more casualties in the last four months than there are infantry troops in the British army. In the British Army, there were 18,000 infantry in the year 2021.
