Cheerier David Burke says price of food is high

30.06.2022

As inflation hovers over 40 year highs, the price of food has shocked some of the biggest names in the restaurant industry.

Celebrity chef David Burke revealed Thursday that the impact of inflation on the industry on Mornings with Maria was surprisingly, as produce is high. Like other chefs, Burke admitted that he doesn't often monitor the cost of produce in comparison to meats and other main entr e must-haves.

Burke said that the cost of produce has doubled since thepandemic, and that's why we're looking at what's the meat cost per pound, what's rib eye, what is a shrimp, what is beef, but produce will creep up on you.

A container of produce used to cost $7,500 to bring in two years ago before the epidemic. He said it's now 15,000.

Some establishments have imposed an inflation fee in order to curb the rising cost of goods, a move that could deter restaurant-goers.

Burke told FOX Business Maria Bartiromo that I agree with some of my colleagues that we should raise the price of a main course or an appetizer a little bit because people don't like fees.

The additional charge helps the restaurant fight inflation, but it may cost the wait staff.

He said that charge gets taken out of the tip, and that some businesses aren't ready to commit because of the current labor crisis.

Burke said that it is hard to keep good employees at the moment.

Despite the high prices, customers are coming in and spending, according to Burke.

People are making up for the pandemic time that they didn't get together.
