Airbnb bans parties, events from homes

01.07.2022

Airbnb has banned parties and events from homes on its platform after a temporary measure during the Pandemic proved popular with hosts.

Since it was introduced in August 2020, the rule has become much more than a public health measure.

Since the measure was first introduced, the number of complaints about parties has dropped by 44%.

It added that exceptions to the global ban may be made for specialty and traditional hospitality venues in the future.

There is a limit on the number of people that the listings can accommodate at any one time, and Airbnb said it would remove that limit.

The firm said several types of larger homes are capable of comfortably and safely housing more than 16 people - from castles in Europe to vineyards in the US to large beachfront villas in the Caribbean. The cap is meant to allow hosts to responsibly use the space in their homes while still complying with our ban on disruptive parties.

More than 6,600 guests were suspended last year for breaking the rules, and were suspended from using the platform.

It said that we look forward to sharing updates on our efforts to complement our community policies on parties in the coming weeks and months.
