Amazon limits purchase of Plan B pills as demand surges

01.07.2022

Amazon has placed a weekly purchase limit on Plan B or morning after pills, as demand for contraceptives surges after the end of Roe v. Wade.

According to Business Insider, Amazon will limit customers' purchase of three Plan B pills per week. The Supreme Court overturned Roe, giving states the ability to regulate abortion for the first time since 1973.

As trigger laws take effect, more than a dozen states are poised to ban most or almost all abortions in the coming months.

Contraceptives of all kinds are available, and the court allowed states to ban abortion procedures.

Amazon said on Monday that several brick- and mortar retail stores limiting purchases of Plan B were also impacted by Amazon's announcement.

There are restrictions on purchases at CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid. The pills were out of stock on Monday, or nearly so, according to the companies' websites.

Walmart limited purchases to four or six per week.

Plan B pills can be taken within three days of having unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. They can be purchased over-the-counter and are different from abortion pills, which require a weeks-long regimen and a prescription.
