St stagflation, recession, says Sitharaman

01.08.2022

In a debate on price rise finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha, he categorically refused to associate terms like stagflation and recession with the current state of Indian economy. India's debt is in a good position compared to many other countries, she said. The government has acted to reduce the cost of imports, lowering the duties on edible oils. The finance minister said edible oil prices have corrected sharply. Sitharaman said today morning that we announced GST collection for the entire month of July, which was a result of the government's GST tally. Since the introduction of GST in July 2022, we have garnered the second highest level ever since. This is the fifth consecutive month that collections have been above Rs 1.4 Lakh crores. We've never seen a pandemic of this kind. Everyone in our constituencies wanted to make sure that people in our constituencies are given extra help. I recognize that every MP has played a role in the state govts. Finance Minister said that India wouldn't be where it is compared to the rest of the world.
