Nearly 400 crore invested in Ayurveda, yoga, unani medicine research institutes

The government has set up ayurveda, yoga, homeopathy, unani medicine, and siddha medicine research institutes in the country. Nearly 400 crore has been invested in the establishment of these centres by the government.

The Minister of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy Sarbananda Sonowal said that the ministry has established central research institutes under the purview of five research councils including the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences CCRUM Central Council for Research in Homeopathy CCRH and the Central Council for Research in Yoga Naturopathy CCRYN Each of these councils has regional research institutes and research institutes under its purview.

The amount allocated for CCRAS for its nine research institutes has been Rs 70.90 crore, of which Rs 27.42 crore has been used. The government provided Rs 58.57 crore for CCRS in 2017 -- 18 which has been fully utilised.

CCRUM was allotted Rs 18.72 crore, which was fully utilised when CRIUM Lucknow moved from a rented accommodation to its own building in 2014.

The government gave CCRH Rs 107.54 crore to set up four of its research institutes. The rest of the 72.90 crore have been used from there, and are in the process of being used. The government gave 121.24 crore to CCRYN for its three research institutes, which have been fully utilised.

The ministry said that the government is implementing several schemes such as Extra Mural Research EMR projects, Ayush Oushadhi Gunvatta Evum Uttapadan Sanvardhan Yojna AOGUSY scheme, Champion Services Sector Scheme, Ayurswasthya Yojana and others to promote private research institutes, along with international and national conferences, workshops, and training programmes, which are being organised to adopt the latest medical advancements.
