According to an earlier Bloomberg News report, the letter confirmed that Urquhart will start at Coatue in the coming months and will get involved in key management responsibilities. He will oversee investor relations and fundraising efforts.

Urquhart was a partner at Carlyle and was a member of its leadership and operating committees. He joined Oz Management in the year 2019 after 11 years. Urquhart had stints at JPMorgan Chase Co. and UBS Group AG.

A Coatue spokesman wouldn't say anything. A Carlyle representative didn't respond immediately to a request for comment.

Coatue is led by Philippe Laffont, who started the hedge fund in 1999 after working at Julian Robertson's Tiger Management. It had $59 billion as of December 31.

Urquhart's departure follows the resignation of Carlyle Chief Executive Officer Kewsong Lee on Sunday.
