UK PM to review visa system, make changes

27.09.2022

LONDON, England - British Prime Minister Liz Truss is set to review the country's visa system and make changes to the shortage occupation list to address labour shortages in key industries. According to the Financial Times, Truss could allow certain industries to bring in more foreign staff, such as broadband engineers from overseas, and loosen requirements to speak English in some sectors to allow more foreign workers into the country.

It is not about relaxing rules. If we want to go down there, the whole point about the debate is that we need to control immigration in a way that works for the UK, said Kwasi Kwarteng, UK finance minister, speaking to the BBC.

In the next few weeks, the Home Secretary will make a statement. But we have to grow the economy," Kwarteng said.

It was reported that the UK government was about to lift the cap on seasonal workers from abroad working in agriculture.
