GM says it won't mandate return to offices by 2023

27.09.2022

General Motors Co has said it will not mandate workers return to offices before 2023, after it told them on Friday that they would be expected to work three days on campus each week later this year.

The U.S. automaker told employees that it does not plan to mandate certain days of the week as collaboration days. On Friday, the GM had cited the dramatic improvement in the COVID landscape to drive the best collaboration, enterprise mindset and impact. Many companies are still grappling with how much white-collar employees must return to offices. Anthony Capuano, the company's CEO, told Reuters last week that the company has no requirements but is encouraging people to be here several days a week. GM said Tuesday's clarification was based on the dialogue that took place since Friday. We plan to keep listening to your feedback so that we can incorporate it into our implementation plans for the next few weeks. More information will be released at the end of next month, according to GM. Between now and then we continue to ask for constructive dialogue about our culture, collaboration, speed and innovation. Thousands of GM workers, including hourly workers assembling cars, have continued in-person work during COVID-19.
