Amazon plans to close several call centers in U.S.

Reuters- Amazon.com Inc plans to close several call centers in the United States in a move toward remote working, according to people familiar with the matter, according to people familiar with the matter.

The shift to remote work across most industries was accelerated by the COVID 19 epidemic, with cloud call center companies such as Five 9 Inc seeing a boom in business.

The report said that Amazon is encouraging its customer service employees at some call centers in the country to work from home, a move that would save money on real estate.

Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing division of Amazon Web Services, sells Amazon Connect software that allows companies to serve their customers using remote networks.

A company spokesman told Reuters that Amazon is working with employees to make sure their transition to remote work is seamless, but did not say anything about the planned closure of call centers.
