Trev Noah leaves The Daily Show after 7 years

30.09.2022

After seven years, Trevor Noah left The Daily Show.

After thanking the audience for their support, the South African comedian made the announcement at the end of the show. It has been absolutely amazing. My time is up after seven years, he said. In the most beautiful way. I love hosting the show. It was one of my greatest challenges. He added that it was one of my greatest joys. I'm trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when stories are particularly sitty on the worst days. In 2015 Noah took over the satirical news show from Jon Stewart.

He ran the show from his apartment for more than a year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, before returning to the studio last year. During Noah's reign, The Daily Show shifted its focus from snarky mocking of conservatives under Stewart to more youth-focused, social-advocacy messages, even though conservatives were still mocked. Noah did not give a departure date, and said he will continue hosting the show for the time being. Paramount Global PARA made a statement Thursday night, and we are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we are working together on next steps. As we look ahead, we are excited to see the next chapter in the 25 year history of The Daily Show as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them. The Daily Show has been Emmy nominee for the best variety talk series every year Noah has hosted, but has never won, losing to former Daily Show cast member John Oliver's Last Week Tonight on HBO every year, even though it won an Emmy for the best short-form variety show in 2018.

Noah's departure is the latest shake-up in the late-night TV scene. Discovery canceled Samantha Bee's Full Frontal after seven seasons, according to TBS. Showtime s Desus Mero recently split, and James Corden announced that he will leave CBS's Late Late Show in 2023.

ABC renewed Jimmy Kimmel Live for three more years last week, Disney's DIS.
