US envoy Kerry calls for boosting methane funding

02.10.2022

Kerry, the US special presidential climate change envoy, said on Tuesday that countries need to ramp up spending to reduce methane emissions in order to quickly slash greenhouse gases and meet global climate goals, as well as meet the global methane emissions 30 per cent by 2030, as a result of the Global Methane, Climate, and Clean Air Forum.

Kerry said that tillions of dollars would be needed to help countries implement their national plans to slash methane.

Kerry said that finance has an enormous uphill battle, as less than 2 per cent of global climate finance goes to methane, despite the fact that methane is responsible for nearly half of net global warming.
