India getting behind semiconductor shortage, says CEO Amon

05.10.2022

We are getting behind the shortage, I think. We don't see this as a problem anymore. At the beginning of the year, we predicted that supply and demand will normalise by the end of the year 2022. Amon said that the semiconductor supply chain needs to be global, resilient and diversified. He said that industry had learned that semiconductors are an essential technology for the digital economy because of the natural disasters alone, which could cause supply chain crises for semiconductors. That's why governments are interested in building a resilient global semiconductor supply chain. I don't believe that one country can solve this problem alone. He said that it is a problem for the entire global industry, as semiconductors are in everything and will continue to grow.

Amon said there was an opportunity for the country to work with partners because of India's plans for self-reliance in semiconductors. India has an important role to play in its scale, its talent pool to build semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, whether direct manufacturing or the supply chain that exists around semiconductors. He said that there is a great opportunity to see a lot of countries motivated to attract the industry.

Amon said that Qualcomm, the world's largest fabless semiconductor company, was outsourcing all of the manufacturing and has become one of the largest semiconductors foundries in the world.
