New service launched to help air travel

02.12.2022

The Indian government introduced a new service in India that is meant to make air travel easier. The new service is called Digi Yatra. It will allow passengers to move without a boarding pass or a ticket to different parts of the airport. The Digi Yatra service was opened on Thursday and is currently available only at three airports, in order to ensure contactless, seamless processing of passengers at airports based on Facial Recognition Technology FRT. The feature will be rolled out to other major airports as well. Digi Yatra was introduced at Bengaluru, Varanasi and New Delhi airports.

How do I enroll for Digi Yatra?

Passengers will need to provide their details and documents to create Digi Yatra ID in a central system.

On submission a Digi Yatra ID will be generated. The traveler will be able to quote this number when booking the ticket. The data of the traveler, including Digi Yatra ID, will be passed on to the airport by the airlines.

The ID will need to be validated at the registration kiosk at the airport during the first trip. The verification will be done online, in the case of Aadhar. A CISF personnel will manually verify other IDs. On successful verification, the photo of the passenger will be added to the Digi Yatra profile in the central system.

After enrolling for Digi Yatra, the process within the airport is seamless and won't require a boarding pass or ticket.

Digi Yatra ID will verify the identity by Face Recognition.

The ticket or boarding pass is something that the primary benefit is not having to show it at every stage of airport travel. The airport operator will have real-time information on passenger load, which will help with resource planning. The passenger position in the airport will be known by the airlines.
