Hong Kong November was warmest autumn on record

The Hong Kong Observatory HONG KONG was the warmest autumn on record from September to November 2022, according to the Hong Kong Observatory HKO. The mean maximum temperature and the mean temperature during September to November reached 29.2 degrees Celsius and 26.4 degrees Celsius, making them the highest on record for the same period, the observatory said on Friday.

In Hong Kong, November was much warmer than usual due to the northeast monsoon over southern China being generally weaker than normal for most of the month.

The two figures were the second and the third highest for November on record, it added.

The HKO said that the month was much wetter than usual due to the rainfall associated with the tropical cyclone Nalgae in early November. The monthly total rainfall was 130.8 millimeters, more than three times the normal figure of 39.3 mm.

On November 1, Hong Kong was windy with a few showers due to the combined effects of the northeast monsoon and the severe tropical storm Nalgae. The storm approached the city and the HKO issued the No 8 Storm Signal the following afternoon.

November was unseasonably gloomy in the city, with only 100.3 hours of bright sunshine, which was about 42 percent less than the normal figure and the lowest for November on record.
