Chinese Grand Prix cancelled until 2023

02.12.2022

Formula One has announced that the Chinese Grand Prix will be cancelled next year due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions in the country.

The sport is facing a four week hole in the 2023 calendar with the defunct round in China, which was scheduled for April 16th, sandwiched by races in Melbourne on April 2 and Azerbaijan on April 30.

F1 leaders are talking about filling the gap in order to ensure a record 24 rounds go ahead, according to a number of interested venues.

The race cancellation in China will be the fourth season it has been canceled from the schedule. It took place in 2019, when it was won by Lewis Hamilton.

The 2023 season starts on March 5th in Bahrain and ends on November 26 in Abu Dhabi. F 1 expects to confirm whether or not the round in Shanghai will be replaced in the new year.

Following a dialogue with the promoter and relevant authorities, an F 1 statement can confirm that the Chinese Grand Prix will not take place until 2023 due to the difficulties presented by the Covid 19 situation.
