Millwall manager Jim Kavanagh encourages older fans to get back into society

06.12.2022

It is significant that Millwall is at the vanguard of this campaign. The club has suffered from a poor reputation for many years, in part due to the behaviour of some of its fans, hence the no-one likes us chanting.

Like all families, it can be difficult and dysfunctional, but we look after each other. We feel we have to go even further because of our history. The weekly session began when Covid lockdowns were lifted, giving older fans the chance to come somewhere safe and encouraging them to get back into society. It has a financial element and is a warm place for people to meet.

Some are offering cheaper, or free tickets but that is not always appropriate for someone who can't afford the petrol or fare to get to a match in the first place, as pointed out by Mr Kavanagh.
