Ex-Detroit Pistons basketball star Kelly Olynyk sells lakefront home
The professional basketball player Kelly Olynyk, formerly of the Detroit Pistons and now with Utah Jazz, is selling his lakefront home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, about a 40-minute drive north of Detroit.
The property was designed by the notable Birmingham, Michigan architect Irving Tobocman, who was known for a contemporary aesthetic that emphasizes open spaces and natural light. This home is no different with its Cubist modern design and long foyer flanked by floor-to- ceiling windows that offer unobstructed views of Island Lake, a 111 acre body of water.
Mr. Olynyk lived in the home for about a year, according to co-listing agent Jill Laskey of The Crain Homes Team at The Agency Hall Hunter. The owner before him renovated the property in 2020 with new electrical wiring and plumbing. She said that she said that it was completely redone on the interior, but it is still very much indicative of Tobocman's sleek design and style.
Aesthetic elements throughout include high ceilings, modern light fixtures and a combination of light wood and cream porcelain tiled floors. A collection of contemporary artworks consisting of metal sculptures and pop art pieces are a feature included in the sale of the home.

There are standout features inside a large room with a dining area and a main floor primary suite with a fireplace and a wall of windows facing the lake. The black marble kitchen leads to a covered pergola that faces the lake and has a generously sized seating area with a fire pit. There is a patio that runs the length of the house, a sprawling lawn, and a dock with two kayaks and paddleboards.
The waterfront setting creates the feeling of a relaxing retreat, but the property is very accessible and practical for everyday living, according to Ms. Laskey.
The more than 5,000 square foot property has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half bath. It is situated on almost an acre of land.

The more than 70 feet of water frontage may be the most appealing perk of all, due to the many outdoor areas and dock. The lake views from most vantage points both inside and outside are a draw.
Bloomfield Hills is an upscale suburb known for its many outdoor activities such as boating, biking and walking. Its strong school system attracts many families. Downtown Birmingham, a vibrant city with many shops and restaurants, is a 15-minute drive away.
