As COVID-19 restrictions ease, Singapore’s top searches list

Singaporeans were thinking about having fun online and offline this year, as COVID 19 restrictions were relaxed and borders opened across the globe.

According to Google's lists of top searches in Singapore for the year 2017 The Year in Search 2022, the lists show the people, events and places that captured the country's attention this year.

Three of Google's most popular Wordle game topped the top three for trending searches, trending games and trending how-to's. Many people couldn't wait to go out, with searches for events and places such as i Light Singapore 2022, The LKY Musical, Grand Prix Singapore, Nightclub Marquee and Teo Heng KTV ranking.

As borders opened, revenge travel was on everyone's mind. The vaccineated travellanes were highly sought for earlier in the year, along with details on the Causeway Link reopening and the Malaysian contact tracing app MySejahtera. With terms like the SG Arrival Card and passport renewal trending, it was telling that those planning their first trip overseas in two years turned to Google for help.

As the country reopens and restrictions are lifted, the year 2022 has been a year of reemergence for Singaporeans as they show more optimism and creativity in search of a way to find their footing, said Grace Chua, Corporate Communications Lead at Google Singapore.
